Hunger in the Eyes

Calling the Samba massive … a few years have past and a few pounds have been gained but the roots and ethos, within each of us, have definitely remained … so after much reflection and deliberation, under the watchful eye of Jonny “the Tinkerman” Breeze, we have finally re-formed the Samba … there is much optimism and we all firmly believe that he is the right man to deliver the much needed trophies that the fans have been longing for.

I want to use this blog to send my formal apologies for missing the first game of the season but let me assure you that I will be putting the time to good use, scouting for talent on the west coast of Africa. Obviously come Tuesday I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on the results remotely from my temporary base in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how unforgiving this league was and still is for that matter. From a thorough review of the videos and statistical analysis I can assure you that the level of competition is every bit as high as it was back in the early Samba days. As Assistant Manager, and right hand man to “the Tinkerman”, I’ll take it upon myself to look into the eyes of each and every one of you. The key will be desire and “hunger” – how much do you want it? How much do you need it? What will you do to get it?

We are an ambitious club and there is absolutely no room for complacency or mediocrity. We haven’t got time to carry passengers. Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. The ultimate goal has to be to get back our rightful place at the top of Division 1. The fact that Kenfica (our bitter arch rivals) now hold that title should provide that added incentive, not that anyone should need it! Come match day the long-term goals will be forgotten albeit and the approach will be, as always, to just take one game at a time.

Be safe samba soldiers, be safe.
