We did it!

The Samba heroes played for 6 hours against 6 different teams. It was hard. Our opponents showed no mercy(!) And our squad was down to the bare bones by final game. But the sense of achievement and pride was huge as the clock struck 4pm and the marathon was over!

It was great to record a win in the last match as well. It was our second win of the day which we think was decent given our small squad, no recognised keeper, we hadn't played together for so long, and we faced some good quality opponents.

At times the football flowed and the old Samba magic was evident to those on the pitch and those watching from the sidelines. John Cross - who was injured and unable to play outfield - did a great job as a makeshift goalkeeper. Mihali Moore hadn't played a game of football for 10 years (since his last Samba game) yet worked tirelessly, bagged a few goals and played as a keeper in the last game. Ben Canageretna was impressive in his 90 minute cameo (he had a good excuse for leaving early) - just like old times he chased down the opposition and battled hard.

Jonny Breeze used his magic left foot to good effect, scoring plenty, twisting and turning away from defenders and supporting the defence and attack.  Matthew Carlton played the full six hours without a break; sitting mainly at the back he occasionally ventured forward and rifled in some long range goals. Greg Day was superb up front, top scoring and skipping past defenders all day with his skill and strength - just a shame the ITV London News footage (see video post) featured him missing a sitter! Fittingly Basil El-Titi scored the last goal of the day, slotting in past his brother Sami. As well as some smart finishes (and a cameo in goal) fans were treated to the occasional Baz turn!

As well as the Samba player a huge thanks to all the opposition players who helped make this a memorable occasion. And a massive thanks to everyone who has donated so far. We'd still like to raise more, so keep the donations coming.

Football365 this morning... Binghamiham coming back ???

Following last night's impressive Samba comeback Binghamiham has issued a statement via his agent Eric 'monster-monster' Hall suggesting he is "fully fit and willing to fight for his first-team place". He had earlier issued a denial that he was about to issue a come-and-get-me plea to Samba's rivals Kentfica.

Manager Matt Carltona stated that "Binghamiham still has a role to play for Samba Quays, at the moment it is difficult to break up a winning squad, but I can assure you that if he continues to work hard in training a first team opportunity will come sooner rather than later.... probably in a 9.15pm kick-off".

Binghamiham had been thought to be surplus to Carltona's requirements and a whole host of Div 3 and 4 clubs had expressed their desire to sign the tough defender. Eltham John were favourites to make the signing following their recent big money takeover by a Middle Eastern consortium of Kebab shop owners but it looks like his future lies with Samba Quays for now.

Carltona commented:

"It will be like signing a £20m player when Binghamiham returns to the first team. He's has been out of action for a while now but he has got married during his lay-off, and I'm pleased about this. I prefer my players to be settled and not chasing skirt in nightclubs like China Whites. That was one of the reasons for Samba's demise when we had sex pests like Baz and Tom Whiddett in the side.

But back to Binghamiham, I have a big role for him next week as Will Coulter is away and there is a goalkeeper position up for grabs...."

Breebeto Snr stresses importance of consistency for next season

Breebeto Snr. has called upon the management of Samba Quays FC to ensure that the squad for next season is kept consistent. Speaking to Carlton Palmer on Samba TV, Breebeto Snr. said: "we can't afford to only have 5 players with no goalkeeper one week and then a team that is capable of winning against the top of the league the next week. Consistency is the key if we want to gain promotion to Division 2"

Samba Quays FC secured their position in Division 3 last night with goals from Wildman, Flying Scotsman and an own goal (classic!).

GOALKEEPER REQUIRED FOR 7 A SIDE TEAM TONIGHT

required for 7 a side team tonig

Date posted: Tuesday 2nd March
Ad viewed: 1 time
Location: East Dulwich

Our 7 a side team is looking to bring in a goalkeeper for our Tuesday night league in East Dulwich, just by the train station. We need a keeper for our game tonight (Tue March 2nd) as our regular keeper is injured. It could turn into a longer arrangement depending on how long he is out for (or if you are better than him!)

Additionally if you can play outfield too there could well be a place for you on a regular basis

No match fees for tonight's game
